La Vallière, Louise-Françoise de la Baume le Blanc, duchess de

   mistress of Louis XIV
   Born in Tours, Louise-Françoise de la Baume le Blanc, duchess de La Vallière was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Henriette-Anne of England, sister-in-law to King louis XIV, whose favorite the duchess de La vallière soon became. Their surviving children were legitimized (Anne of Bourbon, known as Mme de Blois, the future princess de Conti, and the count de vermandois). The duchess de la vallière retired in 1674 to a convent, where she spent her later years.
